Gothia Cup

A fist step to enter the job market during Gothia Cup

During Gothia Cup, a large number of volunteers work every year. And for many, it is their first experience on the job market. As part of the Sports X Jobs project, around twenty young people are being validated this year at Gothia Cup. – It feels fantastic to give young people the opportunity to gain the experience needed to enter the workforce, says project manager Anna Johansson.

At Gärdsåsskolan, Avalin Akrawi and Majd Wesam Aressha work as cafeteria hosts, serving food to the teams staying at the school during the tournament. They are two of the young people who have just been validated.
For Majd Wesam Aressha, this is his first year at Gothia Cup, and he is already looking forward to coming back next year.
– It feels really good to have been validated, when people see that you are doing a good job and that you are appreciated. I will definitely come back next year; my goal is to grow at Gothia Cup and become the cafeteria manager here, says Majd Wesam Aressha.

The validation process is carried out by TalangAkademin, where participants answer questions and demonstrate practical skills. A comprehensive assessment of the volunteers abilities is then made.

Avalin Akrawi is working at Gothia Cup for the second year in a row and has just received her validation. She has many warm memories from the tournament and has been looking forward to this week all year.
– I don't know what I want to do in the future, but I know that I want to come back to Gothia Cup next year, and the year after that, until I get old, says Avalin Akrawi.

The project is a collaboration between BK Häcken, Brommapojkarna, TalangAkademin, and Skandia's foundation Ideas for Life.
