Andreas Lindberg from Svedala works as the executive director for the American team Southampton Town United and has brought the team to this year’s Gothia Cup.

Andreas Lindberg from Svedala is the executive director of the Long Island team Southampton Town United. Together with a group of Swedes, they coach multiple age groups from the team.
– I've always dreamed of coming to Gothia, and now I get to, he said with a big smile.

Southampton Town United participated in this year's Gothia Cup with three teams. They traveled from Long Island, New York, to Gothenburg. The main reason for their journey from the USA to Sweden is because of the coaches, who are all Swedish. Andreas Lindberg from Svedala works as the executive director for the team and is one of the reasons they made it to Gothenburg for this year’s tournament.

In 1998, Andreas moved to the USA to attend college. After his studies, he decided to stay in the country and got involved with Southampton Town United a few years later.
– In 2007, I became involved with this club as the executive director, he told us.

Andreas also works as a college coach for a soccer team at a school in the USA, which has given him many connections in soccer. Together with a group of Swedes, he now trains and leads the Long Island club forward.
– I am also a college coach at a school, so I have been aware of some Swedish players who went to college there. Then they also wanted to stay and work with soccer. There aren't that many full-time positions like that in Sweden, but in the USA, there are many more opportunities to do so, he said after they took their team photo.

We asked why the team travelled such long distances to participate in the Gothia Cup tournament. There was no doubt about the obvious answer for coach and executive director Andreas Lindberg.
– I've always dreamed of coming to Gothia, and now I get to. So 2019 was the first time, and now we come here every other year, he answered with a big smile.
