Fredrikstad FK crowned G16 champions – win dramatic final against Sydney University SFC

“It feels incredible, we’ve worked so hard for this, and it was an emotional and intense match from start to finish,” says Fredrikstad’s MVP Sara Johanne Løken Olsen, moved after the final whistle.

Fredrikstad FK claimed the G16 tournament title after a closely contested final against Australia’s Sydney University SFC. The match ended 6–5 after a penalty shootout – a fitting end to a tournament where both teams had remained unbeaten all the way to the final.

The final, played at Gamla Ullevi, started at a high pace with plenty of scoring opportunities for both sides. Fredrikstad took the lead with a long-range strike from Sara Johanne Løken Olsen, but Sydney University quickly equalized after a well-executed counterattack. The first half ended 1–1 after an intense and even battle.
– The opposing team played really well. It was an intense and physical match, full of emotion. You could tell both teams really wanted to win, said Sara Johanne Løken Olsen.

In the decisive penalty shootout, Fredrikstad held their nerve. Sydney University missed their first attempt, but the shootout remained tight until the very end. Fredrikstad ultimately converted the winning penalty and secured the gold.
– This means so much to us. We’re going to celebrate at the hotel with lots of good food, singing, and dancing. It’s going to be a night we’ll never forget, said Sara Johanne Løken Olsen with a smile.
