The Gothia Special Olympics Trophy offers youth with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in The World Youth Cup. During tournament week, teams from all over the world gather in Gothenburg to face international competition. On the pitch, the focus remains the same as in the rest of Gothia Cup – to prepare well, perform, and strive for victory.

For Special Olympics Germany, the week has been successful so far. The team has won all of their matches, although Isabell Klein feels that the performance against Uzbekistan could have been better. She shares that some players were nervous before the match due to past experiences, which impacted the game despite the team coming out victorious.
– I think we have played really well. We could have been a bit better against Uzbekistan, but we won anyway, she says.

Isabell Klein also describes how the team has prepared for the tournament. The players train together twice a week and also participated in the national games in Saarland in June, where they spent a week together.
– We need to function as a team both on and off the pitch. The week in Saarland was a good preparation for Gothia Cup, she says.

She appreciates that the Gothia Special Olympics Trophy is a part of Gothia Cup, where youth from different parts of the world meet during the same tournament. According to Isabell Klein, this helps to create connections between people from diverse backgrounds while allowing teams to compete at an international level.

When asked about the team's goals for the week, she does not hesitate.
– The goal is to win, says Isabell Klein.
