Gothia Cup

IFK Göteborg - the best club in this year’s amazing tournament

The tournament is over for this time and we hope you all had a fantastic week in Gothenburg.

The Gothia Cup 2022 ended on Saturday night. It's been an unforgettable week. Now we can announce that IFK Göteborg was the most successful club in this year’s tournament.

A whole Icelandic B16 final between Vikingur 1 and Stjarnan 1, finished the tournament. Vikingur 1 won on penalties and got the trophy from no other than Iceland’s president Gudni Th. Jóhannesson. 4131 games were played during the tournament. 18909 goals were scored in Gothia Cup 2022!

IFK Göteborg was the best club during the week. They had three teams in the A finals and one team won, the B14 team. The club is proud to be the best club in the tournament this year and will get another trophy for their trophy cabinet.

– It feels fantastic but also a little surprising! We’re not that big in terms of the number of players, so almost every training group has participated in some form in our eight teams - except for the oldest boys - in this year's Gothia Cup. I’ve seen many of the games myself and the teams have performed very well on both the girls' and boys' side overall. The fact that IFK Gothenburg had three teams in the final is fantastic! It’s proof that we do a lot of things right. Of course, as always, there are things to improve, but now we’re happy with the performances of the various teams and above all the B14 team and their tournament victory, says Christian Djuvfelt, that works for IFK Göteborg’s academy.

Congratulations to IFK Göteborg!

We’re so happy with this year’s edition of the tournament and we hope you’re happy too. The Gothia Cup organisation would like to thank everyone involved in the tournament for an amazing and unforgettable week! A huge thank you to all the players, coaches, parents, referees, volunteers and partners! We would love to see you here next year as well.
