Makati FC at Gothia Cup for the 39th Consecutive Year

The Filipino team excelled in the tournament.

Makati FC from the Philippines came as usual to the Gothia Cup. In 2024, they dominated. 
– It is always fun to come here to the Gothia Cup, said Maeva Javier, a player for Makati FC's G14 team, about the tournament. 

2024 marked the 39th consecutive year that Makati FC has been in Gothenburg to participate in the Gothia Cup. Moreover, they played excellent football. For instance, their G14 team went through the entire group stage without conceding a single goal.  
– It has been very fun to play in the Gothia Cup. We have won many matches and performed well on the field, says Maeva Javier. 

One of the reasons they continue to come to the Gothia Cup is that there isn't enough competition in the Philippines to match them.  
– It is a different kind of experience to play against foreign teams. The players here, for example, have a completely different physicality than back home in the Philippines, and you get to experience football from other cultures. It is much more fun than just playing against the same teams back home, says Maeva Javier. 

In addition to coming to Sweden to challenge themselves against more qualified opponents, they also do it for the fantastic experience that participating in the Gothia Cup entails. Maeva Javier has truly enjoyed the experience. 
– It has been great to come here again, and I hope I get the chance to return in the future, she says.
