SV Eichede win all-German final

In the all-German B17 final between SV Rugenbergen and SV Eichede, it was the latter who came out on top. Now, it’s time to celebrate. – We’re going to drink beer on the bus ride home, said the final’s MVP, Lennart Goldenbow.

Under the sunny skies at Gamla Ullevi, the German derby began as an even affair. SV Rugenbergen threatened early on – but it was SV Eichede who made the most of their chances. Lennart Höfken gave them the lead, before Tom Spöhring doubled it in the final minutes of the first half. Advantage Eichede going into the second half.
- I think we had a really good first half, and you could truly feel that this was a final. We made the most of our chances, and that’s crucial if you want to win, said Lennart Goldenbow, Eichede’s goalkeeper.

Backed by a large group of supporters, Eichede continued to push forward in the second half. They shut down Rugenbergen, who never managed to trouble Eichede’s rock-solid keeper, Lennart Goldenbow. In the 59th minute, Eichede put the game to bed by extending their lead to 3–0. They are the B17 champions.
- It’s absolutely mad. We were here for the finals last year too – but we were sitting in the stands. To now play in the final myself – and win it – is absolutely massive, said goalkeeper Lennart Goldenbow, who was named the final’s MVP.

One of Eichede’s key strengths is their solid defence. Over the course of the tournament, they conceded just three goals – an impressive record.
- Having a strong defence is extremely important. All season long, we’ve been brilliant at the back, and that makes life a lot easier for me as a keeper, said Goldenbow.

Now, it’s party time for Eichede, who is going home to Germany today:
- It’s going to be a proper celebration on the bus ride home. I’m hoping we drink beer the whole way back and celebrate this win, Goldenbow concluded.
