Applications open – Gothia Cup is looking for referees this summer
Every summer, thousands of players and team officials from all over the world come to Gothenburg to take part in the world’s largest international youth football tournament. – Referees play a crucial role in both the quality of the matches and the overall experience for players and team officials, says Martin Laanemets, Tournament Director of Gothia Cup.
During the tournament week, around 4,500 matches are played, which means more than 8,000 referee assignments. This is essential for Gothia Cup to be run in a fair, safe and professional way. Each year, Gothia Cup welcomes more than 600 referees from across Sweden, together with international referee groups who bring experience, new perspectives and valuable global exchange. Together, they create a strong, inclusive and professional referee environment.
– We are very proud of the referee programme we have built. Whether you are new to refereeing or have many years of experience, we want to offer an environment where you can develop, share knowledge and feel a strong sense of community, says Martin Laanemets.
Being a referee at Gothia Cup is about more than just matches. It is an opportunity to grow as a referee, gain international experience and be part of a unique setting shaped by football, cultural exchange and meetings across borders.
– Gothia Cup is a place where people from all over the world come together through football. As a referee, you are an important part of that experience – both on and off the pitch, says Martin Laanemets.
