Rules of competition
In Gothia Special Olympics Trophy teams that are members of the Special Olympic program are welcome. The regulation applied is in accordance with the Special Olympics regulations. The tournaments starts with divisioning, on Monday, according to Special Olympics procedure. The divisioning is the basis for group divisions and playing schedule.

Who can participate
Youth with intellectual disabilities. Players must be between 16 and 29 years old, born between 1993 and 2006. This is a youth tournament and the recommended age is therefore 16-21 years.
A maximum of ten players can be registered in each team.
Number of teams in the tournament
The Gothia Special Olympics Trophy can receive 15 Scandinavian and 15 international teams, i.e. a total of 30 teams out of which 22 teams with accommodation. Teams that first register and pay the registration fee will have priority.
According to the Special Olympics rules. Grouping will be made by division play in order to secure an as fair play as possible. The matches will be played 7-a-side. A maximum of ten players can be registered in each team.
Divisioning matches: 15 min
Group stage and play off: 2x15 min
Which is the last date to register?
Deadline for making a registration is April 10th. Please note that teams who have registered and paid their registration fee first will be given priority when we reach the maximum number of teams in the class.
Costs and fees
Registration fee: €100 per team. The fee is compulsory for all participating teams.
Accommodation cost: €145 per person
Everyone staying at the school, players and leaders, has to pay the accommodation cost. This cost is inclusive of lodging in school class rooms for four nights, twelve meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and Gothia Card. Bring your own mattress. Mattresses and bedding can be rented to a cost of €20 per person. We urge all participants and leaders to never leave valuables or money unattended at the school.
For persons with special food needs or allergies we are able to arrange this. If you wish to order vegetarian food the cost is €10 per person. Please note that we don’t serve any dishes that contains nuts (including peanuts, almonds and sesame) or pork.
My Team Info
All registered teams have their own My Team Info login. Via My Team Info you will update your registration, place orders, fill out the list of participants, make payments and see your balance. Please note that each team is responsible for deadlines of when information, orders and similar are to be submitted.
Check in online
All teams have to check in online at My Team Info before their arrival to the tournament. The online check in can be done by the earliest on July 1st and by the latest on July 16th. Please observe, that you must bring your booking confirmation and possible vouchers that you have printed to the tournament to collect your orders.
All participants at Gothia Cup must complete the age control to participate in the tournament. This is to make sure that all participants are eligible to participate in the age class they are enrolled in. All Gothia Special Olympics Trophy participants complete their age control at the Gothia Special Olympics Trophy area.
April 10th: Last day to register a team
May 10th: Last day to pay the accommodation cost
May 30th: Last day to hand in the first division assessment and registration documents for players
June 10th: Last day to pay for any extra orders such as extra Gothia Cards, extra Leaders Card or special food
July 16th: Last day to check in online
July 17th: Arrival day and information meeting
July 18th: Division matches, group stage begins and Gothia Opening Ceremony is held
July 19th: Group stage and Gothia Leaders Party
July 20th: Group stage and Players Evening
July 21st: Play offs, finals and departure day
The registration fee must be paid within ten days of submitting the registration online. Once we receive the payment of your registration fee we will confirm your registration.
The accommodation cost/participation fee must be paid no later than May 10th. If the accommodation cost/participation fee has not been paid for within five days after its due date the Gothia Cup has the right to cancel your registration without any right to a refund or compensation for the registered team or club. For hotel accommodation see your booking confirmation.
Note that all bank transaction fees have to be paid for by the team. Please observe that we do not accept any personal or company cheques.
If you need to cancel your registration, email [email protected] and note your registration number. The registration fee is non refundable.
In case a player or leader must cancel the accommodation cost is only refundable if the cancellation is made at the lastest June 10th. After June 10th a doctor's notice is required to get the accommodation cost refunded.
The team manager in charge is obligated to ensure that all participants are insured on the pitch. Each participant is responsible for his/her personal insurance off the pitch. Participants from countries that have no medical insurance agreement with Sweden must have personal medical insurance. Neither Gothia Cup nor the organizer has collective insurance to cover injuries, illness, theft or damages.
