Chairman of the municipal board: "Gothia Cup is completely unique"
Gothia Cup has a good collaboration with the municipality of Gothenburg.
Jonas Attenius, chairman of the municipal board, in Gothenburg praises the Gothia Cup.
– Gothia Cup is great fun and completely unique, says Jonas Attenius.
Jonas Attenius is full of admiration for the Gothia Cup as an event.
– The Gothia Cup is played on almost every pitch you see in Gothenburg and the surrounding area. It is full speed everywhere and not just in the center but in the whole city and surrounding areas. We hear about new record numbers all the time and yesterday there were over 51 000 young people at the opening ceremony. It's absolutely fantastic. Gothia Cup gives everyone a very positive feeling, says Jonas Attenius.
Kviberg is a favorite place for the chairman of the municipal board during the Gothia Cup week.
– There are 24 pitches there, which is epic. When you park your car, you may have to walk a kilometer and a half to get to the right plane. There are enormous proportions at the tournament, which is a lot of fun, says the chairman of the municipal board.
He thinks that the Gothia Cup has many positive synergies.
– It is an incredibly large tournament that creates work for officials and attracts tourists, which leads to hotel nights and restaurant visits. But above all, the Gothia Cup is enormous fun for children and young people. We are very proud of the Gothia Cup and want the tournament to be well looked after. I think the citizens of Gothenburg feel proud that the Gothia Cup is played here, says Jonas Attenius.
His eldest daughter played Gothia Cup 2018 with Torslanda IK's F04s.
– The tournament gives a boost to both girls and boys of different ages. Big siblings get me little siblings and get to face teams from other countries. It is positive in every way, he says.
Gothia Cup's event manager Anders Albertsson highlights the tournament's good cooperation with the municipality.
– Thanks to the good conditions that exist in Gothenburg, we have been able to create the world's largest football tournament for young people in the city. It would not have worked without good cooperation between the organization and all the city's companies and administrations, says Anders Albertsson.
