Fair Play Trophy – one of the absolute finest prizes in the tournament
The award goes to the ones acting most accordingly to Fair Play.
Fair Play trophy is handed out to teams or individuals that act according to the rules of Fair Play.
A trophy that means more than just the symbolic value it represents.
– It means that we’re displaying our soft values and that we’re making an actual homage to those acting in the manner we advocate, says Niclas Freiholtz, competition general for Gothia Cup.
Celebrate the Game is a campaign that focus on players, leaders, parents and officials well-being. The campaign is built on four values: This is youth football, The referees are human, The coaches are volunteers and Parents cheer for everyone.
– It’s important to remember that this is a football tournament. In football you shake hands after a match, you lose and you win. If you look at the whole picture, you'll see that Fair Play is one of the most important concepts in football. The children learn from adults, and if we adults can proceed with good example, we can be followed by a generation of people that’re better than us, says Freiholtz.
As a part of the campaign there are also officials available around all pitches. They’re there to support and encourage players, leaders, referees and other officials to act according to Fair Play-codex as it’s formulated in the campaign.
– Of course, it’s important that we, the adults, leads by example, but also with our presence. That’s why it’s important that we’ve got officials in every area, says the competition general.
Everyone can nominate either a team or a person to the Fair Play-Trophy that they think have acted in the spirit of Celebrate the Game. It’s a prize that goes to the people that has stood out the most in accordance to Celebrate the Game and what it stands for. The winner is chosen by a jury that reviews all nominations.
– It’s a prize that stands for all the good, the Fair Play in football. We want to show that football is larger than just a few minutes on the pitch – it goes beyond the pitch, into our society. The prize is truly an honorary award, says Niclas Freiholtz.
