Gothia Cup 2021 is cancelled

Due to the pandemic, there will be no Gothia Cup 2021. The governmental restrictions and the Swedish Public Health Agency’s prognosis have forced us to take the decision to cancel the tournament, a second consecutive year.

Gothia Cup 2021 was supposed to be held 18–24 of July and the interest to participate has been large, considering the conditions in the world with the ongoing pandemic. Gothia Cup has spent the last year to plan for different scenarios, depending on how the situation in Sweden and other parts of the world would turn out to be in the summer of 2021.

Now, in the end of April, the numbers of infected by Covid-19 are still high and even though the vaccination programs are rolling out in many countries, the situation is still too severe for us to be able to organise the world’s largest youth football tournament.

“It’s a tough decision to make but our participants’ and our officials’ health and safety are always our top priority and therefore we need to take our responsibility when the situation in the society requires it. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the patience and the understanding we have been shown in an extraordinary situation. Take care of yourselves and each other, because it is together that we will get through this. We miss you all and can’t wait until we meet again”, says Dennis Andersson, General Secretary.

All registered teams can choose if they would like to transfer their paid registration fee to next year’s tournament, to secure their spot in Gothia Cup 2022, or if they want to have it refunded. We kindly ask you to email [email protected] to inform us about your choice, including your registration number, and we will get back to you with more information.

For administrative reasons we need to know the choice of your team before May 31st – if we haven’t heard from you by then, no refunds will be made nor registrations transferred to next year.

Gothia Cup 2022 will be held 17–23 of July.

We are devastated by the fact that we won’t be able to welcome you to Gothenburg this summer and kindly ask for your understanding. We hope that all of you – players, leaders, referees, volunteers, partners and collaborators – will be able to be part of Gothia Cup next year instead.
