Gothia Cup brings in money outside the city centre
When the Gothia Cup spreads across all of Gothenburg, local businesses notice it. In Åkered, the tournament leads to new encounters at Caesar's pizzeria.

Gothia Cup doesn't just affect central Gothenburg, the tournament is noticed all over the city. When matches are played on pitches in different neighbourhoods, local businesses nearby benefit.
– Gothia Cup is so big that it has a major impact on tourism and the local economy. Many other events are usually focused in central Gothenburg, but yearly events like Gothia Cup, Partille World Cup, and the Gothenburg Basketball Festival take place all over the city. That means the economic effects can be seen across the whole city and the entire Gothenburg region, says Magnus Hallberg, Head of Events at Göteborg & Co.
Group stage matches of the Gothia Cup are, as usual, played at Åkeredsvallen. At Caesar's pizzeria, this means more customers and more pizzas to make.
– They play here for four days, so there's a lot to do. They come in waves, players and their families. It's fun, says Matay, who helps run the restaurant.
The international side of the Gothia Cup can also be seen in the pizza queue. Yesterday, a team from Kenya showed up at Caesar's pizzeria.
– A team from Kenya came yesterday. They ate everything and were so thankful, I don't think they'd had pizza like this before, says Matay with a smile.
