The world's largest youth football tournament was grandly inaugurated at Ullevi in front of 48 890 spectators.
– This must have been one of the absolute best opening ceremonies ever, says Gothia Cup's event director, Anders Albertsson.
The first day of the world's largest youth football tournament concluded with an opening ceremony in front of 48 890 spectators at Ullevi in Gothenburg. An opening ceremony that crowned the first day filled with the tournament's first matches being played around western Sweden.
Teams from 75 nations marched into the arena one by one. Additionally, the new song "Celebrate" was performed on stage by Saga Ludvigsson, a song created to highlight the tournament's sustainability efforts that stands on three pillars: Celebrate the Planet, Celebrate the People, and Celebrate the Game. Everything concluded grandly when a large fireworks show was held in front of all the spectators.
Gothia Cup is thereby officially inaugurated, and the tournament's event manager is once again pleased with this year's opening ceremony at Ullevi.
– Just like last year, it was a fantastic opening ceremony. We create a meeting place for our participating youth where everyone can meet whether they play in the girls' or boys' series, regardless of age, and regardless of nationality. We hope everyone has received a good impression of who we are and what we want – and that they left Ullevi with memories for life, says Anders Albertsson.
