Gothia Cup

Gothia Cup returns to Alingsås – Tournament reaching towards a record in participation

2000 participants will be based in Alingsås.

There will be a record number of teams in this summer's edition of Gothia Cup. The high number of registered teams means that the world’s largest tournament is expanding to Alingsås.

Gothia Cup is heading towards the biggest edition of the tournament ever, making Gothia Cup expand to Alingsås in order to receive all the teams that signed up.
– It is a good thing that we are growing, and it feels very good to return to Alingsås. Both the municipality and the local football clubs have welcomed us with open arms and together we have been able to make this happen at relatively short notice, says Gothia Cups Event Director Anders Albertsson.
Gothia Cup was played in Alingsås in 2018 and 2019. The youth tournament has previously been held, in addition to Gothenburg municipality, in Mölndal, Kungsbacka and Partille.
For the municipality of Alingsås, this means that approximately 2000 participants will play football at Noltorpsvallen, Mjörnvallen and Gerdskensvallen this summer. Six of the municipality's schools will be filled with participants from all over the world.
– It is gratifying that Gothia Cup is coming back, it means that we in the municipality and the associations based here have done a good job in previous years, says Daniel Filipsson (M), chairman of the municipal board. It is a fantastic opportunity for our local business community when the city comes alive in July with many visitors staying for a week to have a coffee, eat at restaurants and shop in the city's cozy shops.

Like the teams that live and play in Kungsbacka, Alingsås offers a close and familiar tournament feel in a quiet and cozy small-town environment.
– We received very good reviews from our participants the two previous years that we’ve held Gothia Cup in Alingsås, not least from our foreign guests who appreciated Alingsås' hospitality, nature and the accessibility to swimming at Mjörnvallen.
