Gothia Special Olympics Trophy has kicked off

The Gothia Special Olympics kicked off today at Kviberg, with 48 teams from around the world participating.

Parallel to Gothia Cup, another tournament is taking place at Kviberg: the Gothia Special Olympics Trophy. Teams from all over the world are participating in this year’s edition, including Special Olympics Indonesia.

Parts of Gothia Cup’s matches are played at Kviberg, as is this year’s Gothia Special Olympics Trophy. The tournament features 48 teams from 15 nations, with all players having some form of disability.

One of the teams that traveled a long way to participate in this year’s GSOT is Special Olympics Indonesia. The team is playing in Group 4 and won their first match against Special Olympics Estonia with 6-1. The second match ended in a loss against Turkmenistan’s representatives with 2-6.

Irhan Ramadhan is one of the players on the team. It is the first time Irhan and his teammates are playing a football tournament outside Indonesia. He expresses his joy when asked how it feels to play on international fields.
– It’s very fun, we are very happy. At the same time, it’s a different country with a different temperature and climate that we are not used to, but it feels exciting, he says.

GSOT continues tomorrow, with the finals taking place on Thursday.
