Gothia Cup

Last year's gold medalists are back at Gothia Cup: "We hope the team makes us proud"

At Kviberg, Special Olympics Bharat played their first match of the year at Gothia Cup. Present to support the team is Dr. Mallika Nadda, Chairperson of the Special Olympics Asia-Pacific Council. – This is where we show the world what inclusion means, says Dr. Mallika Nadda.

Dr. Mallika Nadda has a long history of commitment to children and youth with intellectual disabilities. She has traveled all the way from India to support her team, but she is also here to highlight issues related to inclusion in sports.
– Inclusion is what Special Olympics is about. Here at Gotia Cup, football brings together people from all over the world, and we are all part of that inclusion work. We love football and want it to be a high-level sport for all players and participants, says Dr. Malika Nadda.

After an intense match, Indian Special Olympics Bharat declared themselves the winners, securing victory with a score of 3-0 against German Special Olympics Germany. This is not the first time the team is here representing their country. Last year, they won the entire Special Olympics tournament. Dr. Mallika Nadda hopes for great success for the team this year as well.
– Our players are doing their absolute best to win the tournament, just like all the other players here. We naturally hope that the team makes us proud and brings home another trophy, she says.
