Gothia Cup

Lion City Sailors from Singapore are coming back to win Gothia Cup 2024

The Singaporian team reached all the way to the semifinals in the B11 category in Gothia Cup 2023, where they fell after a penalty shootout.

Despite the defeat, the team's goalkeeper, Mohammed Adeeb, refused to be disheartened after the match. Instead, he already had his sights set on Gothia Cup 2024.
– Next year, we hope to come back to reach the final and win as the first team from Singapore ever, he says.

It was an emotional Singaporean team that gathered behind the pitch at Heden. They had fought hard throughout the tournament and remained undefeated until the semifinals. However, within minutes, the determined eleven-year-old goalkeeper had composed himself.
– You learn from setbacks, even though it hurts to lose when we were so close to making it to the final, he says.

In the last seconds of the semifinal, the team incredibly managed to equalize against their opponents, Academia Sebastian Roco from Chile. A few minutes later, after two fine Chilean penalty saves, the singaporians still had to see themselves defeated.
– I hope to have the opportunity to talk to the Chilean goalkeeper; maybe he can give me some tips. Moreover, I want to wish the Chileans good luck in the final, concludes Adeeb.

The Chilean team then lost the close final against the Swedish team Norrby IF with 1-0.
