Gothia Cup

Malmö FF won the SEF Trophy final: "Magnificent"

The two Swedish academies put on a really good football match.

The last final match at SKF Arena was played between two Swedish clubs, IF Brommapojkarna and Malmö FF. Both teams entered the final with six straight wins behind them and with great confidence.
- We went in with the attitude to play our game and fight for each other, said Malmö FF’s captain Vicente Ponnert Hidalgo.

Right from the start, both teams showed why they were in the final. They were fearless, technically skilled, and physically strong. The ball was played with few touches and utmost precision. The defense was more or less flawless in the first half, neither Brommapojkarna nor Malmö made any big mistakes.
- We have faced Brommapojkarna many times and they are always tough opponents, but today we were a notch sharper, Vicente continued.

The second half kicked off and a goal fest awaited. Just minutes in, Malmö FF, after a well-built attack, made it 1-0. They then extended the lead to 2-0 with a nice header. Brommapojkarna didn’t give up and reduced the score to 2-1 through number 89, Leandro Sundkvist, which also became the match’s last goal.
- It felt really good to score the 1-0 goal, it gave us extra energy and we played with greater confidence. We are used to playing big matches but a final in Gothia Cup is different, there is so much audiance and a lot at stake. We have fought long to win Gothia Cup so it feels really good right now, Vicente concluded.
