Medical Care During Gothia Cup 2025

Medical Services During Gothia Cup

Gothia Cup has medical personnel on-site at the playing fields that have two or more pitches. The medical clinic is located at Heden, where you can receive help for non-urgent medical issues such as prescription renewals, assessments of illness symptoms, or treatment for larger wounds.

The healthcare system in Sweden and the Gothenburg Region
Healthcare in Sweden is funded by taxes, and all citizens have the right to equal care. In Gothenburg, we have three major hospitals:

Sahlgrenska sjukhuset: They handle urgent medical issues for individuals aged 16 and older.

Mölndals sjukhus: For adults aged 16 and older with orthopedic issues, such as fractures or joint injuries.

Östra sjukhuset (Queen Silvia's Children's hospital): For all children under the age of 16. Both medical and orthopedic issues are treated here.

The city of Gothenburg has a limited number of ambulances available. The ambulance control center assesses the severity of the patient's condition and determines how quickly the ambulance should be dispatched. This system is in place to ensure that those with life-threatening conditions receive care as quickly as possible. Wait times for those with non-life-threatening conditions can be long, and sometimes the injured person may be advised to make their way to the hospital independently. This is beyond Gothia Cup’s control.

Things to keep in mind in the event of an injury
-
As a player, always bring your passport and, if applicable, your health insurance card to the matches.

– Follow the instructions from the medical staff you encounter on-site and listen to their directives.

– The player will recover best in a calm and secure environment, so it is important that everyone involved remains calm in the situation and works together to achieve this in the best way possible.

In hot and sunny weather
Dehydration can cause the player to feel very ill. Common symptoms include nausea, headache, and fatigue. Rapid deterioration is common, so it’s important to receive the right care quickly.

As a player/leader, you have a significant responsibility to prevent this by drinking water frequently and always carrying a filled water bottle when outdoors. Ensure a higher intake of salt at every meal, and feel free to replenish with salty snacks throughout the day, such as popcorn or crisps.
