Prep School Lions Sky wins their first game at Gothia Cup 2024

The English team won 10-2 against Backatorps IF in the B12 category, group 6.

After a rainy Monday morning on Heden, the sun came out as Prep School Lions Sky was about to kick off their first group stage match in the Gothia Cup 2024. A match they managed well, offering many fine goals.

Prep School Lions Sky, dressed in green, is not an ordinary club or academy but a group of football players gathered from the same school. The team landed at Landvetter yesterday after a short flight from London.
- The trip here went well. The boys were happy and excited to play football again, says the team's head coach.

The match started evenly until the eighth minute when number 81, Jack Penfold, gave the lead to the Englishmen. Just minutes later, his teammate Victor Burke, with number 38 on his back, rolled in the 2-0 goal. Backatorps IF quickly reduced the lead through number 49, Oliver Wahlström, making the score 1-2. After that, Prep School Lions Sky continued at full speed and managed to score a total of 10 goals. The team had two different hat-trick scorers, number 38, Victor Burke, and number 70, Lucas Way.

The majority of Gothia Cup matches are played on artificial grass, a surface that has become very popular in Sweden over the past decade. Large parts of the world have not seen the same change and still primarily play on grass or gravel.
- Artificial grass is not something we are used to. In England, we almost only play on grass, it is very rare for us to play on artificial grass, but the players like the surface and adapt quickly, adds the coach.

New challenges await the Englishmen tomorrow when they face the Spanish team Vicente del Bosque Academy, who won their first group stage match against Swedish IFK Stocksund.
