Gothia Cup and SKF extend their collaboration, SKF continues as main partner for another three years. This year, there is also record-breaking interest in the world's largest youth tournament with more than 1,700 teams from over 60 countries.
After several years of pandemic and travel restrictions, the interest in Gothia Cup is now stronger than ever. With three months left until this year's tournament, over 1700 teams from more than 60 countries have registered and the youth tournament is heading for an "all time high" in the number of participating teams.
Through a prolonged sponsorship agreement, SKF's engagement in the world's biggest football event for youths will extend over 20 years.
Through local qualifying competitions, SKF gives hundreds of youths from all around the world a chance to participate in Gothia Cup through their Meet the World Initiative – every year. Local teams in around twenty countries, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to pay for their participation in the Gothia Cup, qualify for this year's tournament in the spring and are welcomed to Gothenburg to experience a fantastic week of football, togetherness and passion.
Through the Meet the World tournaments, SKF has realized the dream of over 5,000 players to play in the world's largest youth tournament in Gothenburg.
Rickard Gustafson, SKF's President and CEO, says: “Gothia Cup is one of the world's premier sporting events. We are incredibly proud to be involved and contribute to more young people having the opportunity to practice sports, learn from each other and, of course, at the same time position Gothenburg as a global gathering place."
Anders Albertsson, Gothia Cup's event manager, says: "It means a lot to Gothia Cup that SKF continues as Main Partner. Our long-term collaboration has been so successful that SKF shares our passion for spreading joy and faith in the future among youths – all we can create through football, partly in the everyday life in the local communities around the world, partly in Gothenburg each summer when we together create the world’s largest meeting place for youths.
