The Viking is cycling around the world – now he’s at Gothia Cup
From the far north of Norway to New Zealand – all on three wheels. Adrian Stefanescu is visiting over 200 football clubs and right now, he’s in Gothenburg. – It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to see the world, says the Norwegian.

Adrian Stefanescu is making a stop at Gothia Cup in the middle of the biggest journey of his life – a 35,000-kilometre cycling adventure from Hammerfest in northern Norway to southern New Zealand. The trip is done on a three-wheeled recumbent bike and combines a love of football with a clear purpose.
– It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to see the world. As a football coach and scout, I used to travel a lot – by plane, bus, car, taxi, all sorts. But now it’s just me and my bike, says Adrian Stefanescu.
Through the project “Viking on Road,” Adrian Stefanescu is raising money for the Little People Association – an organisation that, since 1996, has worked to improve the quality of life for children and young people with cancer in Romania and Moldova.
– People see a strange bike and a chubby man. But it’s not about me, it’s about the cause. I want people to follow their dreams, and I hope to inspire others to do what I’m doing – to follow their dreams, he says.
The journey began in May and is expected to last more than three years. During that time, he plans to visit over 50 countries and more than 200 football clubs. Right now, he’s in Gothenburg.
– I meet amazing people at the football clubs, and they give me shirts that we can later sell to support this important cause. It’s an honour for me to be able to do this, he says.
