Celebrate

Waste less, win more

The schools are competing to see who has the least food waste by the end of the week.

The world is in crisis, and a collective transformation is needed to achieve the global goals. Gothia Cup 2024 is contributing with its concept, Celebrate the Planet. The message is to work together towards a more sustainable world.

Food waste is a major issue that contributes to increasing global emissions. As part of Celebrate the Planet, Gothia Cup has launched a competition to reduce food waste in the schools.

Between 8-10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions comes from food waste itself. Project Food Waste aims to educate the participants of Gothia Cup about the climate impact and ensure that all the food on the plate is eaten.

On Tuesday, we visited Fässbergsskolan, which is currently in the lead, meaning it has wasted the least amount of food among the schools Gothia is collaborating with this year. We spoke with Iman Noori, who plays for KFV Segeberg B18.
– The initiative is very good. I think the food is delicious and also healthy, I'm super satisfied, he says.

The winner gets ice cream as a price for their efforts.

Gothia Cup continues its sustainability work together with our partners to reach the UN's global goals by 2030. With the help of our main partner SKF and our official partners Polarbröd, DXC Technology, Elektroskandia, GB Glace, Kopparbergs, Kronfågel, Libresse, Länsförsäkringar, McDonalds, NeH, Pantamera, Puma, SEB, Norrmejerier, Via Tvättmedel, Mathem, Volvo, SJ, Tre, Volvo and Estrella, we're taking steps towards the global goals.
