Gothia Cup

We will have teams from Trinidad and Tobago - for the very first time

Trinidad and Tobago will be represented in Gothia Cup for the very first time.

Powerful United Football Academy will bring three teams to Gothia Cup this summer. The players are very excited.
– It feels great for us to have three teams registered as we aim on giving all our players the opportunity to display their talents and the experience to travel, says the manager Jodi Goodridge.

They have only heard positive stuff about Gothia Cup.
– We’ve heard that the Gothia Cup is the largest international tournament in the world which gives the youth footballers a fantastic opportunity to meet different nationalities, make new friends, learn of different cultures and  to play football at a very high level, says Jodi Goodridge.
The players can’t wait to fly to Sweden.
– The players are even more excited this time around as they were preparing for Gothia Cup back in 2020 and the pandemic came and took the opportunity away. So, now being given the opportunity to participate in Gothia Cup 2023, the players have grown a lot and are now more aware of what opportunities the tournament possesses. They’re extremely excited to travel to Europe and Sweden to play football and visit some of Swedens' most historical sites such as the Museum of World Culture, the Haga old town walk and explore the universe at Universeum.

They’re proud to be the first club from Trinidad and Tobago in the history of Gothia Cup.
– As a team from the Caribbean and Trinidad and Tobago, our country's relationship with Sweden has always been admirable and grew closer when Trinidad and Tobago played Sweden in our first World Cup game back in 2006. The opportunity then came for players from Trinidad and Tobago to explore the footballing landscape of Sweden and play at the professional level.
The manager continues:
– The feedback from those persons was one that inspired the young players of Trinidad and Tobago to visit Sweden and be a part of its footballing culture and to play against some of the clubs or academies that would have helped develop some of the worlds greatest footballers such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrik Larsson and ”Freddie” Ljungberg. From this experience we expect our players to learn of the possibilities that exist in football outside of Trinidad and Tobago and bring them closer to the reality of them achieving their goals and dreams which will now motivate them to never give up and stay on the right path, says Jodi Goodridge.
