Meet the World

When worlds meet

On Sunday, more than 20 SKF-sponsored teams from around the world gathered in the schoolyard at Styrmansgatan in Gothenburg. –Not everyone gets the chance to come here and represent their country, says Lithaletu Gobodo from South Africa.

In the schoolyard in Majorna, the SKF-teams from all over the world meet during SKF’s kickoff. First, Zećira Mušović steps onto the stage and is interviewed about her old memories from the Gothia Cup. The audience listens carefully as Mušović shares her experiences from the tournament.

When the interview ends, several players come forward. Some take out their phones, others go up to take a photo with the national team goalkeeper. Many also want their shirts signed. Mušović is quickly surrounded by the players, she is clearly role model for many of the players.

Before the kickoff, each team sent in a song from their country. When the speakers start, rhythms from all around the world fill the air.

Everything from Brazil’s Para de No Bailando and group dancing to the catchy Major Toms, Völlig Losgelöst plays across the schoolyard.

But the highlight comes when the South African girls’ team performs their well-rehearsed dance routine.

– The dance is a mix, it’s different South African dances. We do it for fun and to create a good vibe, says teammate Sinoyuyo Cindi.

For many of the players, this week is about new encounters – both on and off the pitch.
