Gothia Cup
Here are the teams in Gothia PUMA Trophy Girls 2026
Gothia PUMA Trophy Girls continues to strengthen its position as one of the world's most prestigious tournaments for 17-year-old female football players. – This is a very competetive line up says Martin Laanemets, Competition Manager for Gothia Cup.
Since its launch in 2014, the tournament has attracted top international clubs and featured many future international players. This year is no exception, with several of the world's leading teams in the Girls 17 category taking part. International teams include Japan's Kamimura Gakuen, American clubs Minnesota Thunder Academy and FCNE, Germany's Werder Bremen, and Spanish sides UE Cornellà and Mallorca International.
Sweden is also strongly represented by some of the country's leading academies.
– It is fantastic that year after year we not only attract such strong girls' academies, but also continue to develop the tournament. This year we might have one of the strongest Gothia Puma Trophy Girls ever in terms of the reputation and quality of the teams coming to Gothenburg. I am not sure it has ever been more exciting than it is this year, says Martin Laanemets.
Minnesota Thunder Academy arrive in Gothenburg as the defending champions after beating FCNE in the Gothia Puma Trophy Girls 2025 final.
– We see great interest from clubs around the world, and this year's Gothia PUMA Trophy field is of an exceptionally high standard. These are clubs that work professionally with player development and come to Gothenburg to test themselves against the very best, says Martin Laanemets.
This year, Gothia Puma Trophy is following the changes introduced in UEFA's club competition format. As a result, the tournament will use a league phase instead of the traditional group stage.
– We always want to stay at the forefront of development, while also creating formats that people recognise and understand. Just like UEFA, we believe this change will make the tournament even more attractive for both spectators and participating teams – already from day one, says Martin Laanemets.
