McDonald’s and Gothia Cup extend their partnership of more than 50 years

Since the Gothia Cup was first held in 1975, McDonald’s has been a partner of the tournament. The partnership has now been renewed, with McDonald’s continuing as an Official Partner of the world’s largest international youth football tournament. The collaboration is one of the longest-running partnerships in Swedish sport and is built on a shared commitment to young people and grassroots sports.

– Our partnership with McDonald’s Sweden has a truly long tradition. We are both brands that care about young people. Many people get their first job at McDonald’s. In the same way, the Gothia Cup provides an important early experience on the path to adulthood. Among our volunteers, many are taking on their first paid role. It is a special experience and responsibility that the Gothia Cup and McDonald’s share,” says Niclas Freiholtz, General Secretary of the Gothia Cup.

Since its inaugural tournament, the Gothia Cup has grown into the world’s largest international youth football tournament, welcoming tens of thousands of players, coaches and visitors from around the world each year. Throughout that journey, McDonald’s has remained a committed partner. The renewed agreement ensures the partnership will continue with a shared focus on creating positive experiences and meaningful meeting places for young people, both on and off the pitch.

– Our partnership with the Gothia Cup dates back to the tournament’s very first year, and we are proud to now continue that journey together. Over the years, we have seen how the tournament has grown and become a meeting place for young people from all over the world. There are many similarities between what happens on a football pitch or in a changing room and what happens in a workplace. People meet, work together and develop together. Through our local franchisees, we see every day just how important community spirit and local involvement are for people and community life across the country,” says Joakim Bohman, CEO of McDonald’s Sweden.
