Lightning Did Not Stop Kamimura Gakuen

Japanese team Kamimura Gakuen defeated Swedish Enskede IK 3–0 at Gamla Ullevi after a strong performance in the final. – We discussed what we could do to hurt them, and then we went out and executed our plan, says the match's MVP Yamano Sora.

It was a different final in the Puma Trophy final at Gamla Ullevi when Swedish Enskede IK faced off against Japanese Kamimura Gakuen. The match had only been underway for about ten minutes before play was interrupted due to lightning in the area. After the break, Kamimura Gakuen returned with high energy and gradually began to take control of the match.

– It was the first time we played against this team, so we talked during the break about how we could hurt them. When we got back on the field, we did what we had said during the interruption, which worked well, says the match MVP Yamano Sora.

After a close start, it was Kamimura Gakuen who took command when play resumed. The Japanese team pushed forward, applied high pressure, and scored after about 15 minutes of play when they took the lead in the final.

Kamimura Gakuen continued to create chances and maintained control of the match. Enskede IK fought hard to stay in the game, but the Japanese team displayed great discipline in their play and went into halftime with a 1–0 lead.

After the halftime break, Kamimura Gakuen continued in the same fashion and had a dream start to the second half. Early in the half, Hamasuna Anri extended the lead with a top-class free kick, placing the ball perfectly into the top corner and giving her team an even stronger grip on the final.

– We did well after the interruption and then we could just continue in the second half to fight for the victory, says Yamano Sora.

Enskede IK kept fighting and tried to find a way back into the match. The Swedish team created a few opportunities going forward, but it was primarily goalkeeper Elsa Krans who kept the team in the game with several crucial saves. She made several strong interventions as Kamimura Gakuen pressed for more, but Enskede was unable to score a goal that could have created more tension in the final.

Instead, Kamimura Gakuen was able to score another goal and secure the final result at 3–0. The Japanese team then played out the last minutes and was able to celebrate the gold after a strong final performance at Gamla Ullevi.

For Yamano Sora, the tournament also became a special memory. It was the first time the team played outside Japan, and she highlighted the unity within the group as an important reason for their success.

– This is the first time we are playing outside Japan and I am so happy for my teammates. We played as a team with great discipline and loyalty, we helped each other and that’s why we won, says Yamano Sora.
