Tanzanian Gold Celebration After a Hard-Fought Final
The B17 final at Gamla Ullevi featured a meeting between English side Horsham FC and Tanzanian team One Tanzanite. The Tanzanian side came out on top, defeating Horsham 2–0. – We are like a family, says final MVP Said Rashid Lugazo after securing the gold medal.
One Tanzanite started the match the stronger of the two teams and created the best chances early on, forcing Horsham goalkeeper Noah Willard into action several times during the opening three minutes.
It was a match characterised by a high tempo and intense battles. The conditions were also made more difficult by a challenging pitch after the rain that had fallen earlier in the morning.
In the 17th minute, One Tanzanite’s Agrey Germanius Ngonyani was brought down inside the penalty area, and referee Alexander Romic did not hesitate before pointing to the spot.
Said Rashid Lugazo stepped up and calmly placed the ball to the goalkeeper’s right. The 1–0 lead remained intact until half-time.
Just three minutes into the second half, One Tanzanite got the perfect start. After a rebound from the goalkeeper, Abdul Rajab Amri reacted quickest and fired the ball into the net. The celebrations were clear to see among the Tanzanian players as they extended their lead.
Horsham never came close to finding a way back into the match, and One Tanzanite, with their skilful play and rock-solid defence, secured victory in the B17 final.
The final’s MVP was awarded to One Tanzanite’s Said Rashid Lugazo.
– I feel so proud of myself and of my team. It feels so good, he said after the match.
After a long journey to the final, he highlighted the team’s unity as a key factor behind their success.
– We have been training so hard, we are like a family. We push ourselves to our limits. That’s how we made it to the final, and that’s why we get to lift the trophy.
