Makati FC - Kvarnsvedens IK (1-0) (2-2) 7-8
The first final of the day at the SKF Arena featured the undefeated teams Makati FC from the Philippines and Kvarnsvedens IK from Sweden in the G14B category.
In the first half, both teams defended their goals well, resulting in a tight and evenly contested match. However, Philippine player Kurisara Limpawanich broke through on the right wing and finished with precision low into the left corner, putting Makati FC in the lead with 1-0.
With strong support from the stands, equipped with megaphones, Kvarnsvedens IK gave their all in the second half. Their efforts paid off as the second half turned into a nail-biting thriller, ending in a 2-2 draw after full time.
The day's first final was decided in the most nerve-wracking way possible - a penalty shootout. Just like the rest of the match, the penalty shootout was an evenly matched contest. In the end, Kvarnsvedens IK could proudly call themselves Gothia Cup champions.
– It feels incredible; we've been fighting for this for so long, says Kvarnsvedens IF's captain, Tuva Norén.
Despite the close match, the champions never stopped believing in themselves, as Norén explains.
– We had a lot of confidence, and we knew we could win the whole tournament. When they scored, we responded immediately. Then we just kept going; there was nothing to lose, says the newly crowned Gothia champion.
