Meet the World
Through Meet the World, SKF has sponsored over 4,000 people from all over the world, for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to travel to Gothenburg and compete in Gothia Cup. Ana Bral, 23, from Portugal is one of those 4,000 people who got this chance. She got it not only once, but four times.
Our volunteers, Nils and Sture, at the sports school in Congo-Brazzaville are now back home in Sweden. Before returning home, they spent a few weeks at our sister school in Kimpese, which is located on the other side of the Congo River in Congo-Kinshasa. At that school, Nils tried the dance sport nzango.
Gothia Cup wants to make an update about the current situation, because of the outbreak of the new coronavirus. This message has today been sent to all our participant teams:
Since the outbreak of a new coronavirus, Gothia Cup wants to inform our participating teams about the situation.
The registration to Gothia Cup 2020 closes in about a month and the interest in the World Youth Cup is high, with many nations breaking their participating records this summer. For the first time ever, teams from Trinidad and Tobago, and from Myanmar will participate in Gothia Cup.
Twelve foreign teams will be invited to this year’s edition of Gothia Puma Trophy. They will compete against the same number of Swedish teams. “It is very inspiring for us to participate”, says Robert Nordström, Academy Manager at Halmstads BK.
It’s that time of year again where SKF Meet the World tournaments will be held all over the world. SKF Canada are among those who are preparing to host their yearly Meet the World tournament. It will take place in Fort McMurray, a city that has been hit hard by forest fires over the last years.
Through sports and social activities, the leaders at CF Gothia, the sports school in Brazzaville, want to keep children off the street – a life often characterized by violence and crime. Ten-year-old Paul is one of those kids. In conversation with our volunteer on site, Sture Genemo, he says that he only dreams of one thing: “I want to become a football professional like Messi!” he says.
