Gothia Cup
The relationship between Lerums IS and Te Awamutu FC from New Zealand shows that football and sports are so much more than just results and success. Their joint experience during last year’s Gothia Cup shows the importance of Fair Play and how it can be expressed in many different ways.
Gothia Play
This aftermovie sums up all the wonderful memories and moments that we together created during Gothia Cup in 2018.
The cancellation of this year’s Gothia Cup meant disappointment for many young footballers looking forward to the summer. For the 15-year old girls in Remsle UIF, the negative news quickly turned into something positive. “Most of us were going to play until Gothia Cup and then quit but now we get one more year together which is really great”, says Elvira Heneryd.
South African team, Kusasa Stars, participated in Gothia Cup in 2018 and 2019 and looked forward to fulfilling the dreams of more young people this summer, traveling to Sweden and the world’s largest meeting place for youth. Instead, they’re now fighting the coronavirus pandemic, trying to keep the children safe in these challenging circumstances.
Due to the Coronavirus disease pandemic, there will be no Gothia Cup this summer. After consulting with the Swedish Public Health Agency and the WHO, we have come to the decision to cancel the tournament, for the first time since the beginning in 1975.
Fair play is an important part of football and our Fair Play project Celebrate the Game was created to improve the environment for everyone, both on and off the pitches. Submit your best Fair Play story and have the chance to win a nice prize.
Meet the World
Through Meet the World, SKF has sponsored over 4,000 people from all over the world, for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to travel to Gothenburg and compete in Gothia Cup. Ana Bral, 23, from Portugal is one of those 4,000 people who got this chance. She got it not only once, but four times.
Our volunteers, Nils and Sture, at the sports school in Congo-Brazzaville are now back home in Sweden. Before returning home, they spent a few weeks at our sister school in Kimpese, which is located on the other side of the Congo River in Congo-Kinshasa. At that school, Nils tried the dance sport nzango.
Gothia Cup wants to make an update about the current situation, because of the outbreak of the new coronavirus. This message has today been sent to all our participant teams:
