Gothia Cup
With football as a tool, Sumet Kaewtipnet has dedicated his entire adult life caring for orphans. ”I’ve always been driven by helping children who have difficulties in life”, he says.
SKF has extended its sponsorship of Gothia Cup and will continue as main partner. Together, they are now looking into how to develope the cooperation for the next three years. Both parties priority is to increase the capacity of SKF Arena at Heden 2020.
For one week every year, Gothenburg, Sweden is consumed by football fever as the Gothia Cup takes hold of the city – and the Gothia Special Olympics Trophy is right at the heart of it!
For more than 35 years, José Guimarães and his Pequeninos do Jockey have travelled all the way from São Paulo to participate in Gothia Cup. By doing that, memories for life has been created for thousands of youths.
A new record was set when Gothia Cup opened the registration for next years tournament. After just five minutes the category for local teams was full. But it wasn’t only local teams that were eager to secure their place in Gothia Cup – within the first 30 minutes over 400 teams had already registered.
Registration for Gothia Cup 2020 opens on Tuesday September 10th, 10 am (local time). The tournament will take place 12th–18th of July. Some of our categories normally get fully booked quickly, so make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to be a part of the world’s largest youth tournament.
The smoke has barely settled after this years Gothia Cup. But already tomorrow Gothia Cup China begins. “It’s gratifying to again experience the special spirit of Gothia Cup and this time on the other side of the globe”, says Dennis Andersson, general secretary of Gothia Cup and guest of honor at the tournament in China.
When Kusasa Stars came to this years Gothia Cup they had three bags with them on the plane to Sweden. On the flight back to South Africa they ”had to” bring 70 bags filled with football equipment and clothes that had been donated to them during their stay in Sweden.
One week has passed by but we already look forward to Gothia Cup 2020. The registration opens September 10th, at 10 AM, local time (GMT+2).
