Sustainability is a central part of Gothia Cup's work. As part of our climate effort, the green hosts work to collect all waste at Heden and ensure that it is sorted and recycled. – The sorting is crucial for our waste to be useful, otherwise, it will just be incinerated, says cleaning supervisor Johan Elmklo.
Games, contests and big prizes are now drawing visitors to Heden in Gothenburg. You can win football boots, signed shirts and La Liga tickets. – It’s a great way to mix football with fun for all ages, says Marko Savic from Puma.
Berthold Happe was awarded an honorary place in the Gothia Cup Hall of Fame during this year’s Leaders Party, recognizing his long-standing dedication to the tournament with SG Borken e.V. – It feels incredibly honorable and I’m very proud, he says, visibly moved by the moment.
For the third year in a row, Gothia Cup, in collaboration with Sonepar, is distributing a rainbow-colored captain's armband to all teams participating in the tournament. – We show that together we stand up for diversity, inclusion, and human rights," says Thomas Andersson, Sales Manager at Gothia Cup.
Refereeing at the world’s biggest youth tournament is something very special. As Gothia Cup’s referee ambassador, Jonas Eriksson supports referees from all over the world. – It’s the best job in the world, he says.
Fifty years ago, the first Gothia Cup match was played. Today, it is the world's largest youth football tournament. The journey there is presented in an exhibition at Heden in connection with the tournament about its unique history.
In Gothenburg, teams from all over the world gather for the Gothia Special Olympics Trophy. Varel Affandi is playing in his first tournament and gets to face teams from countries he has never played against before. – We look forward to Germany, he says.
Beyond Limits has traveled all the way from Nigeria to participate in the Gothia Puma Trophy. This year, they hope for sporting success and to return home with a trophy. – We have been preparing for a long time and are looking forward to playing, says Aribo Faith Olorunjeda.
